You've done it; you've stumbled upon something new. Or perhaps you ran, leapt, or pirouetted into it. In any case, welcome to Dance Collection Danse's Fans of DCD group, and prepare to be moved.
Pictured to the left are enthusiasts of a Canadian organization called Dance Collection Danse, sporting ironic t-shirts at an annual fundraiser at Toronto's Arts and Letters Club (some more images from this event can be found on our 'Multimedia' page). We were inspired by the definitive image of Miriam Adams (DCD's Co-founder and Director), who with her husband Lawrence, became a dance iconoclast in the 1970s arts scene. Miriam's satirical shirt and the memorable image (pictured above right) are a testament to this.
These enthusiasts wished to revive the look and humour of Miriam's photograph, to pay homage to a lady and a time period which were very much exciting, and pivotal in the story of Toronto as a city, and as a dance hub.
So what is Fans of DCD? With the same sentiment in mind, we want to develop and maintain an enthusiasm for dance in Canada, to dance, to party, to learn, to dress up, and to revel in entertaining cultural experiences unseen since the dance boom. Our program's official title will be chosen from entries to our "Name the Club Contest," which will take place at our November 22nd Launch Event: "The Speakeasy Ball"
We want anyone to be a part of it: dancers, non-dancers, bankers, lawyers, teachers, dreamers, singers, artists, students. And that means we want you.
